Our Commitment to Protecting your personal information
The information that is collected by the Residence is done solely for the purposes of carrying out its responsibilities, first as a health care provider to terminally ill patients and their families, and secondly, in helping to fulfill its fundraising objectives.
We have therefore created a Privacy Code (Code for the protection of information relating to patients and donors – CSA Model CAN/CSA Q830-96) a copy of which can be requested from the Manager of Operations at the West Island Palliative Care Residence.
Our objective is to be as transparent as possible with regard to all of our practices regarding the information we collect about patients and donors.
Our Privacy Code explains what information we collect and for what purposes; how we collect it; who has access to it; how we protect it; how we ensure its accuracy; how you can correct inaccuracies; and who is accountable for ensuring that the Code is properly implemented and respected.
The Board of Directors of the West Island Palliative Care Residence is fully committed to the terms and conditions that are outlined in the Code, and is ultimately responsible for its application and adherence to each provision.
Any individual may challenge our compliance to the Code and we will respond in the appropriate delay. Any individual may as well challenge the accuracy of information we may possess about them, and we will make the necessary changes, if so deemed appropriate.
As is often the case in our society, especially in this rapidly evolving technology environment in our health care arena, we must find a balance between protecting the information with which we have been entrusted, while at the same time taking advantage of its availability for the sake of providing better care.
We at the Residence will continually strive to ensure that this balance is always achieved.
