Supportive care

Many dying patients end up in hospital emergency rooms during the last weeks and months of life. In a regular hospital setting, care is provided with a focus on treating the physical symptoms, often overlooking the emotional pain associated with advanced illness and death.

At the West Island Palliative Care Residence, we address the physical symptoms as well as the emotional, social and spiritual needs of the patients and their families. Our skilled social workers, therapists, spiritual counselors, as well as our nurses, offer professional counseling during the entire process. Our numerous volunteers have received special training that conforms to the standards of the Canadian Palliative Care Association and offer assistance to patients and their families.
